ASA is like ABS but with far better UV resistance, making it a strong candidate for outdoor projects.

Why ASA?

ASA resists yellowing and embrittlement from sun exposure. It also maintains impact strength at outdoor temps, making it better than PLA or ABS for garden fixtures, automotive clips, or outdoor signage.

Printing Challenges

ASA warps like ABS and releases fumes—an enclosure is recommended. Use a bed at 100–110 °C, nozzle 240–255 °C, and keep drafts out. Good ventilation or a carbon filter is advised for indoor printing.

Bed Adhesion

Use PEI with a glue-stick barrier or garolite. A brim or raft can help with larger parts. Keep first layers slow and slightly squished for best hold.

Post-Processing

ASA smooths with acetone vapor like ABS, though slower. Sanding is straightforward. Painted ASA holds up well outdoors if lightly sanded and primed first.
